Meet My Boyfriend

I was looking back at at my “About Me” post, and I realized I didn’t have something in about my boyfriend. Since Zackary is a huge part of my life, I figured he deserved to be introduced.

So yep! That’s his name! Zackary Elijah. I met Zack when I was at a hockey convention, and we clicked right off the bat. At the time, I was 16 years old, and wasn’t into the whole dating game. My best friends, Nate, Parker & Ilya would joke and say: “Your the next Mrs. Elijah!”Overtime though, my friend group would let Zack join them.

Around my 2 year in dental hygiene school, Zack and I would fall for each other. On August 3rd, 2019 he would ask me to be his girlfriend. And I said yes!

We’ve been dating for almost 5 months now, and it is still amazing that God has blessed me with such a amazing man in my life.

But now, lets get to know him a little more. I got a few questions on my Instagram and email from you guys, and as well I’ve asked him the basic get-to-know-you questions. So here it is! (P.S. The responses are from Zack, in his own words.)

  1. How old are you? I’m 22 years old! (2 years older then Ev)
  2. What do you do for a living? I am a real estate agent. As well as I have a YouTube channel.
  3. Hobbies? Carpentry, sports (hockey, dance and archery) and baking! I love cooking.
  4. Do you have your own house? Yes, I do. I live and own a acreage!
  5. Any pets? Yes, a dog named Nicky, and a hamster named Zoorooe. (Zoo – Row)
  6. Personality? I’d say quiet when I don’t know people. But when I do, I am energetic and bubbly. I’d say I tend to be more tender and caring though, then outgoing and reckless.
  7. Favourite part about Everleigh? I honestly don’t know! She’s such a great girl. Probably her ability to make others laugh and her honesty.
  8. Future? Hopefully with Everleigh and a big family! I want to be a dad so much.
  9. Do you and Everleigh… Haha, this one came from a email from one of y’all. Nope, we are saving ourselves for marriage.
  10. Full name? Zackary Thomas Elijah.

Hopefully you enjoyed getting to know a little more about Zack. He will be in a lot of my future posts, so be sure to follow so you don’t miss out on our journey!

Braces VS Invisalign? The age old question. Which is better?

When I was 8 years old, I was in a sports accident causing 3 of my teeth to be knocked out of place. 1 of the teeth was able to be saved by doing a simple surgery (which was extremely nerve-racking for both me and my parents) but the other 2 had to be extracted. They were both on the right side of my mouth, so because I was missing 2 teeth there, all my top teeth started shifting to the right side of my mouth. This caused grinding, pain and clenching. My parents knew this had to be fixed so we started to take action. The simple solution was to go to the local orthodontist and put braces on, but because I was only 8 (and still had teeth to lose and teeth to come in) we knew that my teeth probably wouldn’t stay straight. But we didn’t have much of a choice. So knowing my teeth would probably not be straight, we still went ahead and put on braces in hopes of fixing the clenching, grinding and shifting of teeth problem.

Now, because Invisalign was still fairly new at this point, it wasn’t an option for us. So we had to go and get regular conventional braces. I remember getting rainbow colours. 😉 The braces fixed my issue, but sure enough my teeth were crooked again by the time I was 16.

So, last year (my second year in Dental Hygiene school FYI) I decided to use my student health benefits for straightening of my teeth. It was a little expensive, but after a long time, I realized it would be worth it in the long run. Now, because this is around 10 or so years later, Invisalign was a lot more technically advanced. So given both choices, I went with Invisalign.

Now that I’ve done this big long rant (excuse the rant please :)) I am going to give you my opinion on the age old question: Braces VS Invisalign?

Since I am only 6 weeks away from finishing my treatment with Invisalign, I feel I can give a honest opinion. And since I’ve had both, I can say that I think I think that I know a fair bit about both. And as a dental hygienist in training, I’ve learned a lot about them.

So. Let’s start!

  1. What’s more painful? Braces or Invisalign? While moving teeth will be painful no matter what, I would say Invisalign is less painful. Firstly, when you put braces on, it causing extreme pain for a week. Your mouth has this metal on it, and it is really quite painful for the first week or so. While, when first putting on Invisalign, yes, it is painful, but it is nearly as sore. After a few days of wearing your trays, the pain will usually subside. Also, since you slowly move the teeth with Invisalign it hurts less then cranking the wires on your braces all at once.
  2. What’s harder to clean? Probably braces! With braces, you have a big metal wire and metal brackets to clean around. And with Invisalign, all you do is take out your trays and clean your teeth like normal. A lot of time you get tons of decay from the metal braces because you have so much to clean around. That’s why staining is so usual for metal brace wearers. Invisalign is definitely a lot easier to clean.  That being said, you can get tools to help you clean your braces. Water  flossers, electric toothbrushes, etc. To help you keep your teeth clean!
  3. What’s better for teens / kids? While I always like to recommend Invisalign to everyone, sometimes its not a option depending on their teeth situation. I would say Invisalign, if your child is going to be dedicated to brushing after every meal (because you can’t stick your trays back in if your teeth are dirty, as this will cause decay) wearing their trays, etc. Then Invisalign is a great option for you! However some kids aren’t going to clean their trays or their teeth, and if they don’t wear them, then the money you spent is pointless. Some kids just can’t commit to having Invisalign, and they need to have brackets glued to their teeth. And if you don’t clean your teeth and stick trays back in, you have a really high chance at getting cavity’s!!
  4. What do you recommend? Invisalign all the way! It’s a lot nicer looking, has a lot of perks and I think that it is a great option for most people. If your looking into orthodontic treatment, ask your ortho about Invisalign to see if its a option for you!!

Now, while there is still many more questions that people have about the two orthodontic options, these 4 are the ones I received the most. And because the answers are so in depth, I think I’ll keep the post at here. Remember, it’s your smile, your choice!

If you have any more questions regarding this subject, I encourage you to leave a comment or email me! I would be more then happy to help you, and I promise to respond. 🙂

A Christian College Student: How not to lose the faith?

Research has shown that a study did on Christian college students had some surprising turnouts. Imagine this: If 10 church-going students started going to university, 7 out of 10 will quit going to church by the time the year ends. That’s crazy! 7 out of 10! As a student who still attends church, I know I’m lucky to have such strong faith in God. Because everywhere you go in university, there is negativity towards Christianity. There is always something you have to do Sunday morning! Plans that you can attend! Your fellow classmates might even pressure you to “join in the fun”. Problem is, sometimes going to church & prayer time is sacrificed because of it. So the big question is….. How not to lose the faith?

How do I become a outsider? Be that geeky church kid? Well, its simple yet hard. But with a few of some of my tips that have bee working for me, I think you’ll be able to get through it.

  1. Make church a priority. Sure, this one may seem like a no-brainer, but its actually quite a challenge at times. I mean look! The volleyball tryouts are Sunday morning! No! Resist the urge to give in. On your schedule, prioritize church.
  2. Hang out with your Christian friends! Hey, I’m not saying never hang out with non-Christian people, but I’m saying keep those church friends of your’s close! If they are also going to university or college, make it a priority to go to church with them. By doing this, you’ll go to church knowing that you can’t let a friend down. And if there not in university/college, make a prayer group time! Spend time with them! They will lead you closer to Jesus.
  3. Stay away from things that won’t lead you to Jesus. This is where it gets big, real, and raw fast. Those college kids that talk bad and don’t care about things that matter to you? Yeah, don’t hang out with them. To be more specific the college kids that have parties, get drunk, have sex with multiple people, etc. Don’t deserve to have you in their life. And you deserve better. So stay away from that kind of crap that will bring you away from Jesus. Stay away from online things that will keep you away from church, or will waste time that could have been spent praying or doing No. 2 on the list.
  4. Make yourself a prayer routine. Wether doing this in the morning or at night works for you, make yourself a time to prayer, meditate with God, do bible study etc. This is your time with Jesus! And by staying close to him, you will be able to keep the faith.

Now, I have a few more things that I could add to the list, but since the list is really in depth, I think you get the point. By adding this kind of stuff into your life, you can stay close to Jesus and pursue the education you always wanted.

About Me

So……..who am I? You might be wondering. My name is Everleigh, and I am a university student in Manitoba, Canada.

I am currently studying Dental Hygiene at the university, and I am going to graduate this year, and will then be a fully registered Dental Hygienist.

I was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB and I have 7 siblings. As the eldest of 7 sisters and brothers, I have been the family “guinea pig”, and have been the first child to test the waters of life. My siblings are: (from 2 oldest – youngest) Alaïa, Raine, Miguel, Colter, Connor, Dominique & Veronica. I’ve loved growing up in a big family, and its been such a blessing.

My religion is Catholic. I am love my faith, and wouldn’t compromise it for the world. But I accept all other people, and believe everyone should have a right to practice their faith / religion.

As a 20 year old, I’ve had so much fun exploring multiple opportunities that have came my way. Overall, my passions are sports, music, the arts and animals.

I played elite hockey on the girls team in Winnipeg. Alongside my hockey training, I did archery for a few years, gymnastics and dance for a few years, completed my lifeguarding in swimming, and took piano lessons for 12 years. I continue to play the piano, and practice my sports. Some of my other hobbies were drawing, painting and photography.

I am proud to say that from the ages of 12-18 I was a Canadian Cadet. For 2 1/2 years I was a air cadet, and then switched to being a army cadet of Canada. My experiences as a cadet, served me well, and I recommend it to everyone to try!

I did mention that I love pets. And I do! I have a horse named Ryder, and a dog and a cat. My little doggy is named Ozzy, and my cat is named Pawprints. I love all animals so much!!

Growing up, I was homeschooled through grades K-8. When I came to high school, I opted out and spent my following years in a public school. Reason why? I wanted to easily earn my high school diploma. And it was worth it!

My personality is bubbly, but also soft. I am upbeat around people, but when alone, I tend to stay quiet.

So now you know a little about me! Stay tuned for more! ~Everleigh
